Chesterton takes Junior Max British Championship

Tyler Chesterton takes the Junior Rotax Super One British Championship title with one round still to go, such has been the consistency and dominance shown by the Coles Racing driver.

The Super One Series headed up to Larkhall, Scotland for the eighth round of the series, including the sixth round of the Junior Rotax British Championship.

 

Tyler Chesterton, Ben Burgess and Henry Stennett represented the Coles Racing Team, setting a strong pace throughout testing.

 

Official practise took place in very wet conditions as the final preparations into qualifying began.

 

Timed Qualifying took place in wet conditions, all drivers were unable to saw their full potential due to so many yellow flags in the short session.
Chesterton placed the highest of Coles Racing drivers in 10th position, Stennett qualified 13th and Burgess in 17th.

 

Heat One took place in changeable conditions as the track began to dry out, ever improving as the race went on.

Chesterton managed to climb four positions from him 10th position starting berth to bag himself 6th at the chequered flag.

Burgess managed to follow Chesterton through the pack to cross the line in 8th - however a nosecone infringement demoted him to 13th in the classification. Stennett also came through the field well to bag a solid 10th place finish.

Heat two once again saw the Coles Racing trio again make progress from their starting positions. Now with the track in dry conditions, Chesterton gained five positions to bag a top 5 finish, setting the second fastest lap in the process.

Stennett and Burgess endured more difficult races, being the victim of rival incidents that left them unable to make the same progress as their teammate - as they came home in 15th and 16th respectively.

 

The first of the finals saw Chesterton start 7th, Stennett 13th and Burgess 15th. In a hotly contested first final, Chesterton moved up to 6th in the race - right on the back of the train of karts battling for third position. Chesterton finished just on the back of them in 6th position as the train remained defensive throughout the race. Stennett finished the race in 14th position, whilst Burgess finished 17th after a difficult opening final.

 

The Grand Final saw Chesterton make a great start, vaulting himself into podium contention early on - moving himself into third by the eighth lap of the race and chasing down second position. Burgess made a great start up to 12th position as well, with Stennett maintaining his starting position in the early stages of the race.

Stennett was taken out of contention by a rival driver on lap 6, dropping himself down the order to the rear of the field through no fault of his own. Burgess held his own before he was run wide and lost ground like his teammate.

Chesterton however managed to maintain his pace at the front, taking 2nd position on the tenth lap. He managed to hold this position until the end of the race, capping off a strong comeback weekend - coming home with a great result. Stennett finished 16th and Burgess in 18th after their mid race incidents.

 

Post race, once all the points were confirmed - it was discovered that Chesterton has amassed enough points over the season so far to be untouchable at the top of the championship standings, making him the provisional Junior Rotax British Karting Champion with a round still to go!

 

The final round of the championship takes place at PF International on the 9-10 September. All Rotax and X30 classes that Coles Racing compete in will be in action with plenty of championship positions and podiums up for grabs for the team.

Elswood takes 3rd at Kartmasters Grand Prix

William Elswood claimed at Podium in the MSA British Kart Grand Prix at PF International. Coles Racing took pole position in two of the finals - however the lottery of Kartmasters denied them victory

The MSA Kartmasters British Grand Prix saw Coles Racing compete in six different classes, with eleven competitors in total - some drivers doubling up in classes.

 

Minimax saw Tom Adams and Owen Johnson take to the track. The Minimax duo claimed 3rd and 4th respectively in the first qualifying session of the weekend, before going on to claim a 1-2 in the first heat shortly after.

Adams bagged another victory with Johnson 4th in the second. Timed Qualifying 2 saw Adams take pole position with Johnson setting the 4th fastest time ready for the resumption of the heats.

Adams took a 1st and a 5th in the remaining heats to give himself pole position for the Pre-Final. Johnson took 5th and 10th - after a nosecone penalty demoted him from 4th in the final heat, meaning he would start the Pre-Final from 4th.

 

Adams stormed to victory in the Pre-Final, taking the win by over 2 seconds to give himself pole for the GP Final. Johnson was in a race long battle for 2nd position - ultimately finishing in 4th position.

 

The Grand Final saw an all race battle with five drivers going for victory. Adams led the race on two different occasions, before a last lap collision into the hairpin took him out of contention for the win. Johnson crossed the line third, but was demoted for a nosecone infringement. Adams recovered to 6th after being cruelly denied!

William Elswood was the sole representative in Mini X30 - taking 4th in the first qualifying session. He took a 4th and 5th in the first two heats, before qualifying 2nd in the second qualifying session of the weekend. Once again he took a 4th and 5th in the remaining two heats - giving himself 3rd on the grid for the Pre-Final.

Elswood was knocked back to the back of the field on the third lap and began to fight his way back through the grid, unfortunately picking up a penalty on his way and being classified 13th at the flag.

Starting way out of position for the Final, Elswood made quick progress through the field - picking drivers off one by one to give himself a shot of the podium. As the field bunched up in the closing stages, he made a brace of moves to get himself up into 3rd position at the chequered flag - just 0.3s off a victory, gaining ten positions in a great final drive. This earned him a well deserved spot on the podium in Mini X30.

 

Tyler Chesterton took pole in the first qualifying session in Junior Rotax, with Bradley Barrett and William Stennett taking 7th and 9th respectively. Chesterton took a 1st and a 3rd in his two heats whilst Burgess and Stennett took 10th and 11th in heat one, and 6th and 12th in heat two. Qualifying 2  saw Chesterton take the 3rd fastest time. Stennett took 5th and Burgess the 11th fastest time. The trio went on to take 1st, 8th and 10th in heat three, and 3rd, 12th and 11th in the final heats.

 

Chesterton went on to take a lights to flag victory in the Pre-Final after starting from pole position by over 1.0s in dominant fashion. Burgess and Stennett took 7th and 8th respectively in the Pre-Final.

The Grand Final saw Chesterton in the fight for the victory throughout the race, taking the lead on three separate occasions. On lap 13 however, Chesterton was knocked to the back of the grid and removed from the battle for the win. Chesterton battled back to finish 9th, with fastest lap. Burgess took a strong 5th position and Stennett finished in 10th.

 

Chesterton doubled up by racing in the Junior X30 class, alongside Samuel White and Matthew Hudson. Chesterton took 3rd overall in Qualifying 1, with White 6th and Hudson 22nd in the 52 kart strong grid.

Chesterton went on to take 3rd in his opening heat, before being taken out of the race in his second heat. He took a 6th and a 2nd in his remaining heats. White had strong heats with a 6th, 3rd, 2nd and a 4th - before a DNF in the final heat denied him a top starting position for the Pre-Final. Hudson took 22nd, 18th, 13th, 28th and 9th in his heats - meaning he also would qualifying for the Finals on the Sunday.

 

The Junior X30 Pre-Final saw White go off 10th position, Chesterton from 15h and Hudson from 18th. White charged through the field to take a brilliant 2nd position, less than 0.5s off victory. Chesterton likewise made great progress, gaining nine positions to finish in 6th position - whilst Hudson was denied a solid 16th position by a nosecone infringement.

The GP Final saw White in the hunt for the podium, running in 4th for the majority of the race, less than half a second off the victory. With four laps to go however, his shot at GP glory was thwarted after being run wide - forced to settle for 6th at the flag. Chesterton was working with White for most of the race, running in 5th position just behind him. Likewise he was denied a shot at the podium due to contact forcing him down to 9th at the finish line. Hudson put on a great charge through the field, gaining fifteen positions to finish in 13th position overall.

 

Josh Skelton led the Coles Racing drivers in X30 Senior first Qualifying, setting the 21st fastest time overall out of the 63 participants entering the maximum capacity event. Tom Croydon lined up 23rd, Morgan Rose 26th, Tyler Sullivan 32nd, Jenson Brown 38th, Stephanie Le Vesconte 53rd and Corman Dunne 57th after issues in qualifying.

After six hard faught heats in the run up to Finals Day,  Skelton and Rose managed to make their way into the hugely competitive A-Final. Sullivan, Croydon, Brown, Dunne and Le Vesconte raced as best they could, however numerous incidents blighted their pursuit of a position in the A-Final - with Sullivan reaching reaching 7th in the B-Final, just shy of making it into the A Final.

In a frantic final race of the weekend, Skelton put on a valiant performance to bag himself a top ten finish, taking 10th in the final - racing against some of the most successful karters in Kartmasters history and multiple British Champions. Rose also raced well, coming home 24th after a nosecone infringement denied him an 18th place finish.

 

Overall it was a case of what could of been for Coles, on the front row in three finals but just missing out on victory at the Grand Prix Events. Nevertheless, fastest laps in Minmax, Junior Max and Junior X30 showed the team had the potential to be triple champions and will use this to motivate them into the final rounds of the 2017 season.

 

The next race takes place at Larkhall, Scotland for the eighth round of the Super One British Karting Championship.

Chesterton dominates at Glan-Y-Gors

Tyler Chesterton took a clean sweep of final victories at round seven of the Super One British Karting Championships in Junior Rotax. Samuel White took a podium with 3rd in Junior X30 as well.

Glan-Y-Gors Park in Corwen, Wales hosted the seventh round of the Super One British Karting Championships.

 

Tom Adams qualified 3rd on the grid in Minimax Timed Qualifying, before going on to take a 6th and 7th place finish in his two heats - giving himself 7th on the grid for the first of the two finals.

Adams made good progress to vault himself up into the podium places, setting the fastest lap in the process to get within 1.4s of the leader.

 

The Final, going off 3rd on the grid saw Adams chase the leaders throughout the race - ultimately despite once again taking the honours for fastest lap, he had to settle for 3rd on the podium at the chequered flag.

 

Tyler Chesterton qualified 4th on the grid in Junior Rotax, with teammates Henry Stennett 7th on the grid and Ben Burgess 13th.

Chesterton went on to take a win and a 3rd in his two heats, giving him 2nd on the grid for the first of the finals.

Stennett took 6th in his first heat, before a nosecone penalty in his second heat resulted in a 19th place finish - meaning he would line up 13th for the Pre-Final.

Burgess would line up 12th for the Pre-Final after taking 10th and 14th in his two heats.

Chesterton went on to take a hard faught win in the Pre-Final, after taking the lead with three laps to go and holding it until the end. Burgess gained two positions to come home in 10th position and Stennett finished in 12th position.

The Grand Final saw Chesterton double up on final victories, taking a lights to flag victory after never being headed throughout the 18 lap final - claiming victory once again in Junior Rotax. Burgess and Stennett endured battling races, taking the finish line in 11th and 14th positions respectively.

 

Samuel White set the 2nd fastest time in Junior X30 timed qualifying, with teammate Matthew Hudson taking 24th. White went on to take two 2nd positions in his heats to line up 3rd on the grid for the first of the finals. Hudson made it into the top 20 on the grid after taking 10th and 12th in his two heats.

The Pre-Final saw White battle for the win throughout the race, remaining 3rd throughout and holding onto his strong position at the chequered flag. Hudson crossed the line in 19th position, gaining a place from his starting berth.

White put on an almost identical performance in the Final, in contention for victory throughout the entire race, however an opening for victory never materialised around the notoriously difficult circuit to overtake on - as he took 3rd place on the podium at the end of the race. Hudson was the victim of a collision from another driver making a failed overtaking manoeuvre, dropping the Coles racer to the rear of the field and not allowing him to get the result his pace deserved.

 

Coles Racing came away with a trio of podium finishes at Glan-Y-Gors, after great performances by Sam White, Tom Adams and Tyler Chesterton, the latter strengthening his hold on the Junior Rotax British Championship lead.

The next race takes place at the annual MSA Kartmasters Grand Prix, hosted by PF International on the 4-6 August. The winner of each class gets to run the coveted GP Plate for the next season. Coles Racing will be entering Rotax and X30 classes for the prestigous event.
